According to data released by GASNAM – Iberian Association of Natural Gas, Renewable and Hydrogen in Mobility, the use of CNG in transport has prevented the emission of 10,052 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in 2020, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases in Portugal.
“The use of natural gas for mobility reduces the vehicle’s CO2 emissions by 20% compared to conventional fuels. Natural gas enables the progressive integration of renewable gases, such as biomethane and green hydrogen, and at European level the volume of incorporation already exceeds 17%, with Sweden leading this trend with more than 94% of renewable gases in the transport sector ”, says the same statement from the Iberian Association.
Portugal has developed a program to implement the energy transition in public passenger transport, with incentives for the purchase of natural gas buses.
