Dourogás GNV became the first company in Portugal to obtain the ‘Sustainable Bioenergy Standard’ (SBS) certification, issued by the international organisation Control Union, in the marketing of biomethane for mobility.
This voluntary certification guarantees the traceability and veracity of the avoided emissions associated with biomethane consumption, allowing for greater transparency and credibility in the presentation of environmental data to its customers.
A strengthened commitment to sustainability
Until now, Dourogás GNV provided a self-declaration that recognised biomethane as a renewable energy considered neutral in terms of CO₂eq. With the SBS certification, sustainability declarations are now issued on the basis of quantified data, verified and audited by an independent entity, allowing these values to be accurately accounted for in sustainability reports and in the life cycle analyses of its products.
A new benchmark in the sector in Portugal
SBS certification is a response to the growing demands of the market and European regulators for strict control of the chain of custody of renewable fuels.
This certification independently and transparently verifies the origin, traceability and environmental performance of biomethane, covering the entire chain from production to final use as a renewable fuel in the mobility sector.
Leadership with credibility
By obtaining this pioneering certification, Dourogás GNV strengthens its position as a national benchmark in the energy transition towards more sustainable mobility, playing a decisive role in the decarbonisation of the transport sector in Portugal.
In addition to technical recognition, this certification reflects Dourogás GNV’s ongoing commitment to quality, innovation and environmental responsibility.
